Consistency and other topics

April 5, 2014

I have heard that consistency is the key for getting followers when it comes to blogging.  When will I learn?  Anyway, I said earlier that I would let you know if my short story, “Maidenhood Sign” made it into the Anthology.  Unfortunately, it didn’t.  There were so many people who responded to the call that it just didn’t make it.  That’s ok. though, because I am going to resubmit it to Beneath Ceaseless Skies, and hopefully it will find a home there.  If not, I will find a way to sell it through my blog and let you decide.  It is backstory for my book, Sword of Earth.

This winter has been a hard one because temperatures have been extremely low.  I fight with depression in the winter and this winter was no exception.  I found myself thinking of my characters, but not writing much.  I hope to rectify that.  I hope to be in draft three next year, and with that, I can concentrate on the description of things.  I tend to do the bare bones for draft one, which tells of what is happening mainly.  Draft two seems to flesh that out, adding some depth to my characters (at least I think so), and draft three brings in more description.  I am not sure of what happens in subsequent drafts, as I haven’t been that far with a book.

As for audioboo, I haven’t been doing that much at all.  I just haven’t felt much like talking and this has been the same for the podcast which I know isn’t good at all.  Pray for me please, for I know this is the Lord’s work.

I haven’t been writing much poetry either.  This is a real slump for me, but I feel I am coming out of it.  I have been able to get out somewhat, and then I got slammed by a cold.  I’m sorry that it sounds like I’m complaining; I’m not.  I’m just letting you know where I stand with regards to the writing and all.

There are a few positive things though.  I have received an email asking if I want to be in Heart of the City this year, and of course I said yes!  It’s going on June 7 & 8, although I will be there only on the Saturday.  That could change though.  You can keep an eye on things by going to Hearts Alive! on Facebook.  Secondly, I have been keeping up with some creativity.  I have done some marker art, some of which I have mentioned on Audioboo.  You can see some on the facebook page as well.  Things are looking up!

Well, I have to go now.  May your journeys be safe, take care and God bless.

A New Beginning

December 28, 2013

Well, I can hardly believe that 2013 is almost over!  A new year is beginning in a few days, and this site is beginning with a new image.  Why change this from Heart’s Alive?  Hearts Alive is the title of my whole ministry, from my writing to my art, and that includes music.  All my art comes from my heart, but it is nothing if not made alive by our Lord and Savior.

Hearts Alive! will continue on where Michelle Earl’s Writing left off – a news of what’s going on in my life.  I intended for this blog to be just a writing life blog, but I finally realized that they are all connected; they are all worship art.  That means obedience to where the Holy Spirit leads.  So, I ask that you please bear with me during the next few weeks as I continue to figure out how this site will morph into its new one.  I will bring out some polls for you, and I ask that you participate.  It would help me out a lot.

News

As of yesterday, I have edited Maidenhood Sign, a short story I had submitted earlier in the year.  I have submitted the new version to Tesseract18, a science fiction and fantasy anthology.  With the Lord’s help, maybe it will get in there. If not, well, there’s always more magazines and anthologies out there.

I pray your Christmas went well, and that your New Year will be blessed.  May your journeys be safe; take care, and God bless.

News and quirks

November 20, 2013

Hi everyone,

As you saw earlier, I posted something that had a date back in August.  It’s odd, but I had written it, and I thought I had posted it, but for some reason it didn’t.  I hope you enjoy it, as well as what I have written now.

So what has been happening in the past couple of months?  Plenty.  I have published more poems at The King’s Poetry, and I’m almost finished another podcast for The King’s Poetry Podcast.  I have also completed several pieces of art and hope to post it to Hearts Alive! News and Art Gallery, not to mention others.

Speaking of art, I had my art on display at Edmonton Expo, the local comic and entertainment expo.  The event was a success; some people grabbed some cards.  Nothing was sold though, but that’s ok.  It was all about getting the word out there that mattered.

Ok.  Now on to the writing that I have been doing.  I have written some poems, but I haven’t been putting them up.  One new one, as well as a revision will be up soon, not to mention a poem of a featured poet, Leah Pauls.  I will also be putting up links to the appropriate podcasts.  I have a lot to do, and that’s the truth.  I have a little more written on Sword of Earth.  I am still on chapter 9, but it’s coming.  I am also working on a lot of short stories.  I know, but I plan on kicking it into high next gear soon.  I have needed a break, and now it seems that I am thinking of Horsemaster more and more again.  She is once again becoming a part of me again.  I know she is always a part of me, but somehow I think we could have been at odds with each other due to description.  I wasn’t willing before to describe her homeland or show more, but now that I am, especially after attending a workshop entitled “Show, don’t Tell” at Pagemaster Publications Services on November 7.

I am going to be restructuring this site in the next few weeks.  I will be making up an area with interesting links to not only my accounts I want you to know about, but also to sites and blogs I believe you would want to hear about.

I pray all is going well with you.  May your journeys be safe.  Take care, and God bless.

Much Ado about Everything

April 14, 2013

Hi everyone,

Much has gone on since I last wrote in this blog.  I have gone through a chapbook making course, so I know that the chapbook will be a long time in the making because I have so many themes in the King’s Poetry that I am going to need to figure out a way to gather them together.  The whole theme of the blog is that the poems are inspired by Jesus, but there are deeper themes.

I am almost through chapter 9 of my book, but I have to redo it.  I think I had better put even my working copies on gdrive.  I can’t seem to keep them in one place.  I’m getting so tired of this.  I also learned today that a chapbook of fiction can be published as well.  Therefore, depending on what happens with my short stories, I will be creating chapbooks of fiction as well.

I am going to be doing some research soon as well.  With my ministry, I am going to have to set up a business, but everyone knows my ministry as Hearts Alive, yet when making a business, it costs money to have the business under a different name, but can I have the business on paper as Michelle Earl Ministries, and have subdivisions of Women’s Afternoon Out, Hearts Alive, and Living Waters Hygene Ministries?  I’m hoping so, because it’s the branding that counts.

So, anyway, there is a lot to think about, but for now, some fun.  I have recently found a podcast that I think is really good, and I’m thinking of submitting Maidenhood sign to.  It’s called Beneath Ceaseless Skies.  It can be found both at the site and on Itunes.  Enjoy.

Prologue, 1, 2, now 3!

March 30, 2011

I know the title seems weird, but what it’s talking about is the book, Sword of Earth. I have just finished chapter 2, and now, in chapter three, the third member of the party, Scarlet Fira is introduced. Scarlet is the elemental guardian of Fire. They are imprisoned and find a way out. I am looking forward to working on the rest of the book.

I am also working on my blogs, as you can tell, as well as reshaping my ministry, Heart’s Alive! It’s purpose? To encourage a relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, art, and music. When I have redesigned the website, I’ll let you know.

I have been thinking about ways to explore settings lately and exploring that with Fantasy lately. I’m thinking of doing it with Sword of Earth too because we need to convey the setting to the reader. Any ideas?

Another year…

March 9, 2011

Well another year has come and gone as of today since it’s my birthday. I look upon the past year and marvel at what God has done in my life. He has broadened my ministry in many ways. The first is the blogs that I write in – this one here, for one, the King’s Poetry, the Food Tunnel, and Fantasy’s Fancy are the others. I also have another one, Writing with the Earth, which is a combination travel and writing blog, but I rarely write on it anymore. When I do, I’ll let you know.

The second is becoming a leader in our prayer ministry for our church. I look after Tuesdays in our 24/7 non stop prayer movement. What a way to get closer to God! Further to that, I have a shift that is dedicated to prayerful art. Another name for it is called Worship art, but it’s basically art done prayerfully. You listen to God and He shows you what you should paint, draw, etc. He may even tell you in a word.

The third thing is that I have expanded my worship painting to include prophetic prayer paintings that I give out to people. They are on little 3×5 canvasses – usually no bigger than a 4×6, and they can be of anything. Then I write something on a card and ask God who to give it to. He guides me to the person and I have a way of giving it to the person that the prophecy is usually received.

Fourth, I am working on doing the same thing for the ladies’ drop in of our church. That’s more of a challenge because I don’t paint so much at home, so I can’t get as many together as I’d like.

And the last thing is my writing and poetry that I haven’t put here. I host in an open mic at the Carrot as well as read there. That, along with working on my book, Sword of Earth, I am pretty busy, but what I’m really saying is that the Lord has really taken me out my shell in many ways. I’m truly grateful, because I know He has plans for me, and they are to prosper me. That’s from the Bible, and I really sense it this year. Now if I could just declutter my house…that would be awesome!

God bless you!
