Talk is Cheap

March 18, 2015

Hello everybody.  I’m finally back, and like I have said before, hopefully for good.  Things are on the upward swing here, and having spent a couple of years trying to figure out what to do with my blogs since I have undergone a bit of app overload, not to mention overload with blogging, podcasting, and writing as well.  Well, I figured out one thing – like the title says, talk is cheap.  I am not going to mention any deadlines, or when I hopefully am going to have something out; it will just happen, and you will know when it does.  I am going to make small deadlines, but they are going to be for me, and me alone.  I have found out that it is the best way for me to work.  As a writer or artist, or no matter what you do, I’d reccommend this action.  Do whatever works for you.  Don’t let anyone else tell you what to do.  You have to find your way with God’s help.

Ok.  Now for the news.  For the past few years, I have been prayerfully reading and Illustrating Leah Pauls‘ book, The Tale of the Runaway Toenail, and this Saturday, we will be taking it to Pagemaster Publications Service, a local publication service to see what they can do for us.  I am looking forward to this appointment. Once this project is done, I will be concentrating on another childrens’ book.

Secondly, I have completed chapters nine and ten of Sword of Earth.  I am also beginning to write short stories that tell of each character’s history.  This will also help with the world building for future edits.

Thirdly, I am still writing for the King’s Poetry blog, and doing a podcast.  Again, I am not going to put myself on a public schedule; talk is worth a penny or less.

Fourthly, I am starting another blog and podcast.  Yes, another blog.  I know I got overwhelmed by it all last time, but I tried to put myself on too strict of a routine.  That got into the “I should do this…”, and it got to be an obligatory thing, rather than something I enjoyed.  That was the thing that kept me away from everything.  Anyway, the Blog is going to be called VIBE Visually Impaired Blogged Ezine.  there I will talk about anything relating to accessibility, especially for the visually impaired.  I will rate gadgets, apps, give hints on how things might be done in the kitchen, how to be thrifty, and more.  I know it’s a lot, but this has been brewing in my head for many years, and now it’s time for it to get out.

I will still occasionally work on my other blogs such as The Kent Chronicles as well, but what has been mentioned here is enough.  of course things will change as time goes by.  Hopefully this will all turn from pennies to dollars someday with the Lord’s help but if not, that’s ok too.  🙂 Well, until next time, may your Journeys be safe, take care, and God blessl.  Bye for now.

I don’t know what to say…

November 9, 2014

I have to admit it, it has been a tough year. I have not been doing much writing; what just went up onto the King’s Poetry is a poem I wrote a long time ago. In the summer, I did go to the Heart of the City and participated in a pop up art show and sale, but writing has been a bit of a chore. I don’t know why. I have been making myself write a little each day when I can, but ultimately, I haven’t got much done. I usually don’t do blogging or any kind of work on Sunday, but since I haven’t been writing so much, I decided to go for it.

Ok. Let’s leave that behind. What have I got done on Sword of Earth? Well, I finished chapter 9. I just have to edit it and get it off to my beta readers. I am almost through chapter ten. Four more chapters to go. Yay! Draft three is going to be different though. I am going to take what people have said and rewrite in the first person so I can get into my character’s head. I find that’s the best way. Then in draft 4, (yes, I know there will be a draft 4,) I will be reverting back to the close first person. I think that way, I will be able to describe more, and have more detail in the book.

I’m not going to say what my plans are, because, I have found, writing on here is like talking for me, and talk is cheap. If I think it’s really going to happen, you’ll hear about it. I think that’s part of my problem. I have been saying what I will do, and then life, or my self esteem gets in the way and I have bitten off more than I can chew.

Well, until next time, take care, and God bless.

Consistency and other topics

April 5, 2014

I have heard that consistency is the key for getting followers when it comes to blogging.  When will I learn?  Anyway, I said earlier that I would let you know if my short story, “Maidenhood Sign” made it into the Anthology.  Unfortunately, it didn’t.  There were so many people who responded to the call that it just didn’t make it.  That’s ok. though, because I am going to resubmit it to Beneath Ceaseless Skies, and hopefully it will find a home there.  If not, I will find a way to sell it through my blog and let you decide.  It is backstory for my book, Sword of Earth.

This winter has been a hard one because temperatures have been extremely low.  I fight with depression in the winter and this winter was no exception.  I found myself thinking of my characters, but not writing much.  I hope to rectify that.  I hope to be in draft three next year, and with that, I can concentrate on the description of things.  I tend to do the bare bones for draft one, which tells of what is happening mainly.  Draft two seems to flesh that out, adding some depth to my characters (at least I think so), and draft three brings in more description.  I am not sure of what happens in subsequent drafts, as I haven’t been that far with a book.

As for audioboo, I haven’t been doing that much at all.  I just haven’t felt much like talking and this has been the same for the podcast which I know isn’t good at all.  Pray for me please, for I know this is the Lord’s work.

I haven’t been writing much poetry either.  This is a real slump for me, but I feel I am coming out of it.  I have been able to get out somewhat, and then I got slammed by a cold.  I’m sorry that it sounds like I’m complaining; I’m not.  I’m just letting you know where I stand with regards to the writing and all.

There are a few positive things though.  I have received an email asking if I want to be in Heart of the City this year, and of course I said yes!  It’s going on June 7 & 8, although I will be there only on the Saturday.  That could change though.  You can keep an eye on things by going to Hearts Alive! on Facebook.  Secondly, I have been keeping up with some creativity.  I have done some marker art, some of which I have mentioned on Audioboo.  You can see some on the facebook page as well.  Things are looking up!

Well, I have to go now.  May your journeys be safe, take care and God bless.

A Bit Ditsy

February 26, 2014

Some of you who are looking at this post were expecting to read a poem.  Well, I posted to the wrong blog.  Well, God has a sense of humor, and that’s quite ok.  I haven’t written here in a while, and that needed to change anyway.

What has been going on?  Well, the Lord finally broke through something that I have been wrestling with for over a year, and that’s a long time.  It has been keeping me from doing what I need to here, and I am glad to be back.  Hopefully I won’t get overwhelmed again.  What was the whole thing about?  Believe it or not, it was about whether or not I am leading people to the Lord with my art and my writing.  That matters to me.  I found out that I am leading people to Him through the Holy Spirit when we were on our staycation this year.

So, I have finally come back to writing with a vengeance.  I have come back to working on draft 2 of Sword of Earth, and started draft one of Bow of Fire.  I have decided to write first drafts in the first person so I can get the feeling of the person.  The books are written in close third person anyway, so think it’s the best.  I’m doing the odd post on Audioboo, and I have written a poem for the King’s Poetry.

As for my art, I am illustrating for a children’s book, and am looking forward to its completion.  I am working using markers and illustration board.

Well, that’s it for now, and I pray I will be able to write again soon.  May your journeys be safe.  Take care, and God bless.

A New Beginning

December 28, 2013

Well, I can hardly believe that 2013 is almost over!  A new year is beginning in a few days, and this site is beginning with a new image.  Why change this from Heart’s Alive?  Hearts Alive is the title of my whole ministry, from my writing to my art, and that includes music.  All my art comes from my heart, but it is nothing if not made alive by our Lord and Savior.

Hearts Alive! will continue on where Michelle Earl’s Writing left off – a news of what’s going on in my life.  I intended for this blog to be just a writing life blog, but I finally realized that they are all connected; they are all worship art.  That means obedience to where the Holy Spirit leads.  So, I ask that you please bear with me during the next few weeks as I continue to figure out how this site will morph into its new one.  I will bring out some polls for you, and I ask that you participate.  It would help me out a lot.

News

As of yesterday, I have edited Maidenhood Sign, a short story I had submitted earlier in the year.  I have submitted the new version to Tesseract18, a science fiction and fantasy anthology.  With the Lord’s help, maybe it will get in there. If not, well, there’s always more magazines and anthologies out there.

I pray your Christmas went well, and that your New Year will be blessed.  May your journeys be safe; take care, and God bless.

Summer Begins

June 22, 2013

Hi everyone!

Yay!  Summer is actually here!  We have been getting a lot of rain in our province and the southern end of it is actually in a lot of trouble due to them.  Our city itself is under flood watch right now.

The news on the home front is that our community garden has just been planted.  It is late in the season, so it will be interesting as to what comes up.  I am growing squash, carrots, turnips, zucchini, corn, beans, and for something pretty, some snapdragons.  We are in a raised bed this year, so this makes planting easier.  I loved it.

On the writing front, I have made some progress.  I have submitted Maidenhood Sign to Beneath Ceaseless Skies, so I am waiting on pins and needles as to whether it will succeed or not.  If not, I will try one more time, and if it doesn’t succeed, I will publish it myself on Fantasy’s Fancy.  I have just published the poem “Who?” on The King’s Poetry, and it already has a like, praise God!  Ok, now on to the really juicy news!  I have mentioned the Kent Chronicles, I’m certain of it, especially in the past few blog postings.  I have decided to do it like a chronicle, or a blog of members of the city.  For the moment, they will be around Mary and her journey.

That’s where I’m looking for an app or something I can use online.  I am using Edmonton loosely as a place.  Numbered streets as well as avenues will be replaced with names, and buildings will be relocated to keep their locations more secret.  The only difference is that I would like to put them on points of interest on a map. I don’t want to put it on something like FourSquare because they will be different from our town.  I want this to be as interactive as possible so that if someone were to come to Edmonton who read the blog, if they chose, they could see where Mary “lived”.  I would want to do it with hashtags, and have it link to the posting on the blog.  If anyone has any ideas, feel free to post.  Thanks.  Feel free to read The Kent Chronicles.

Ok., maybe that wasn’t the really juicy stuff.  For months now I have been mentioning that I was going to have a podcast for the King’s Poetry.  Well, the introduction to the podcast is up!  I will be doing the first podcast episode in a little over a week.  Here is the link.

Just as an afterthought, I am planning on working on the art for the King’s Poetry Chapbook as well.  Lord willing, it will be ready for publication in five years.  Also as an afterthought, and I can’t believe I did this, I am again working on Sword of Earth with precautions so that if something happens to my computer, I can always work on it.

So, things are growing, just as things are in the garden and in the world around us.  All I have to do is praise God, for it’s all His.  He’s growing it.  Thank you for reading, and may your journeys be safe.  Take care, and God bless.

A Lot of News

June 10, 2013

Well, Spring has come around yet again…or is it supposed to be summer?  Technically, not until the 21st, but here in Edmonton, it has been really rainy.  We had 30+ degree temperatures at the beginning of the month, but now, it’s pretty rainy.  That is indicative of the change going on in my life too.  I have to quit making it so long between updates.

Our church is going about a move, so I am having to move my paintings from there back home; there is no room right now because I have to declutter my home.  It’s really tough to know they have to live in the back porch for now.  I know this is a blog about writing, but some of those paintings are of a fantasy nature…thus, they could all be story ideas.  Some of my marker paintings are, but it doesn’t matter as much for them because they have a portfolio.  It’s sad.

I am working with some of that sadness in a way.  I finally created a blog called “The Kent Chronicles.” I know that there is a series of books called that, but this is of a magical city called Kent.  It’s loosely based on Edmonton Alberta Canada.  The streets are not numbered though.  They are names of people that have had an impact on my life in one way or another.  The reason I call it the Kent Chronicles, is that we hear about what goes on in Kent through the journals of its citizens, starting out with Mary Anne DeRoss.  I just have the intro up now, but I’m hoping to have the first entry up soon.

I have also made another addition to the boosounds blog.  It’s about our community cleanup last year.  I am hoping to continue to add to it soon.

Speaking of talking, or podcasts, I have finally decided to get working on the King’s Poetry podcast.  I am going to do the intro tomorrow, and hopefully, next week I will have the first episode on the way.  I will let you know when it’s up.  As for the blog, another poem is up.  The King’s Poetry is approaching 100 posts – not all of them first issues, but there is more to come!

Ok, there’s lots of news, but you might wonder, what’s happening with Fantasy’s Fancy?  I might make that into a blog where I invite people to send in their short stories.  I don’t know because I have enough work of my own. I’m thinking I might have to rethink the blog and make her the host…that way she, as a sprite can live without me visiting her.  I don’t know.

What’s going on with Sword of Earth?  I am finally working on it again, and I will be uploading my updates to google drive.  I used to poo-poo the clouds, but now, I think that’s the best way to go.  Five gigabytes is a lot when it comes to text.  The complete drafts go onto skydrive.  Why two?  Then if something happens to one, there’s the other.

So there you have it – the weather, blogs, to my book – there’s a lot going on, not to mention editing my draft of Maidenhood sign.  Keep coming back, and maybe you’ll see some progress.  Do you want to hear my opinions on something?  Just ask.  I don’t know everything; what I don’t know, I’ll research.

Anyway, as Horsemaster says, “Great Terranna!  It’s time to go!”  May your journeys be safe, take care, and God bless.

A Lot Going on

May 8, 2013

Hello everyone,

Wow, time has flown by, hasn’t it?  It seems like yesterday when I was writing the post called “Much Ado About Everything”.  I’m hoping to keep you all more up to date about what is going on.

On the chapbook front, I have begun to read through my revised poems and make notes as to themes.  I want to make sure that I have the right theme to create the chapbooks.  I am planning on making the chapbooks out of duotangs with CD jackets glued to the back covers, but it’s not going to be for a while.

On the audio front, I have just bought myself a headset for my computer.  I will be using this for when I record to Spreaker.  I am going to use the Spreaker App for the iphone, but it will only be for when I am out and about and want to get some birdsong or the sounds around me, whatever they are.

Speaking of funds, and I won’t mention this very often, I am thinking of getting involved in some affiliate programs here on the site.  I would like to have them because any little bit I get will go to the production of the chapbooks as well as if something happens to the computer etc.  I haven’t decided whether to make it a new page, or make it a part of the main one.

As for podcasts, I have encountered another good one, and some day, I hope to submit to this one as well.  It’s a young adult fiction podcast called Cast of Wonders.  The stories are well written and professionally read.  I hope you enjoy them.

On the fiction writing front, my book is at a stand still for right now.  I just haven’t had the urge to write it for a while, especially since I still can’t find my flash card.  I am thinking of just putting the files in the cloud as back up since I can’t keep things in order on my person.

Ok, I promise this will be the last paragraph, but I’d like to know something.  Please feel free to comment, as this is your blog as it is mine.  Would you like a little series about blogging?  I’m no expert, but I am willing to help out as best as I can.  I would be willing to write about 4-6 posts on the subject and people can ask questions, but I won’t start until I hear from you.

So, until next time, may your journeys be safe.  Take care and God bless you.

Michelle

Happy New Year 2013

January 2, 2013

Hi everyone,

I can hardly believe that it’s 2013.  It seems like yesterday when we were ringing in 2012.  Where has the time gone?  It has flown by!  I feel this is a year of victory, and I claim that for everyone who reads.  I pray you feel that in your heart.  I feel that I should tell you about the last of 2012 – specifically why I didn’t post until now.

To be honest, I went through a real dry spell.  It was one of the worst I have ever had.  I began to wonder if I would ever write again.  I have never felt like that before.  I couldn’t write a poem, nor write in my book, and I wanted to have the second draft of sword of earth done by the end of the year.  Oh well, we’ll see what happens.  Lord willing, it will be done by the end of next year.  Today has been the first day I have felt like writing at all.  I am so thankful to God for rebirthing this.  I still haven’t got my podcast going, but that’s part of it too.  I need to get the introduction written, and if I can’t write, then how can that go on?  Hopefully I will have it written by the fifteenth and ready to go.

Well, on a more positive note, I pray that the year will be more positive.  I keep thinking about my characters once in a while, not to mention about the ability to write a poem.

I am still at Audioboo though.  I am not doing as many right now because it’s winter, and when it’s cold, I don’t get out often.  But it’s fun none the less.

So I’ll say farewell for now, and I pray that your day, as well as year goes well.  Until next time, safe journeys and God bless.

Down Period

November 26, 2012

Hi everyone,

It has been a while since I posted here, and things have gone down substantially with regards to my writing.  The reason is that life has taken over, and I have lots to do with regard to decluttering my house.  I won’t get into the details, but just lets say that there’s lots to do.

So because of that, there hasn’t been much done on Sword of Earth, and it’s a good thing that I have many poems in my notebook program.  That really helps.  Not only that, I have some that I am revising for the podcast, and I also have to script that.  I wasn’t originally going to do so, but I think that would be for the best.  It’s best to keep professional.

I’m really thinking of putting some stories online, as well as wondering what to do with Fantasy’s Fancy.  It seems that I really like going too general, at first with a blog, and then realize “Oh, that’s just too much.”  So, I’m beginning to wonder if keeping it going is a good thing.  I haven’t written in it for ages.  What do you think?  You can view the blog here.  I’m thinking of starting a blog called “The Mexus” where short stories tell of people who come to a new world and explore it.  Some populate it, where others go back home.  I don’t know.

So, there’s still lots to think about, but I hope all is well with you.  It’s cold here in Edmonton, and bound to get colder.  I’ll keep you up to date with what’s going on here.

Safe journeys and God bless.

Michelle
